How To: Fix Duplicated Artist Tags in Engine DJ

I've been trying to get my DJ library straight on my Denon Prime 4, and I've been having a bit of a sorting crisis. I decided I wanted to categorize all my tracks by their genres because I thought it would make playlists a lot easier. This was a good idea, but somewhere along the way I messed up the ID3 tags for my songs.

If you look under the selected song, you can see it says the artist's name multiple times.

I was so disappointed that after all this work tagging my library I had to go back through and fix almost every one of them... fortunately I found an easy solution.

Though I'm not sure of the cause, I am sure that the Prime 4 is confused by the fact that somehow multiple "Artist" tags got written to all my music. The solution was to use a free software called MP3Tag. It's a pretty great song tag editor, and it works on more formats than just .mp3 as the name would suggest. The software has been around since Windows XP, so it's safe and well liked at this point.

You can download the program from the website here. You should choose the "x64 setup" option. If you have a Mac, it's also available on the Mac App Store. Install it with all the standard options and open it up.

Once you're in, you have to tell it where your music library is. Mine is on my desktop in a folder called "MusicLibrary", so I clicked the "File" button in the upper left, and "Change Directory" from the dropdown menu. This populates the main window with your audio files.

The next step was to highlight all the music, so I pressed Ctrl+A to select all. Then, go back to the top bar and click "Actions", and then "Actions (Quick)".

First click "Actions" at the top, then "Actions (Quick)". The window shown will pop up.

Once the window pops up, click the dropdown and choose "Remove duplicate fields", and then press "OK". Another window will pop up asking which fields you'd like to remove duplicates from. I chose "ARTIST" and checked "Only duplicate fields with same content". You don't have to check that box, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't losing anything. If you have duplicate fields with other artist names you can remove the check to get rid of them.

I pressed okay and waited a couple seconds, and it was fixed! Onto the next thing to fix. I hope this helped you get back to making music and enjoying yourself.
